OOC FAQ
What’s all this, then?
It’s Curtains is a short-run murdergame in the style of Dangan Roleplay or Trustfell, based around characters from musical canons! It is not connected to either of those games continuity-wise.
Sounds fun! How do I play?
It’s Curtains is a comm-based game. There will be a weekly mod-posted logs to cover daily threading, but players are more than welcome to put up their own logs for IC special events! Every Friday, the mods will post an Investigation log for IC investigation of that week’s murder(s), and the trial log will go up on Saturday. In the event of a successful trial, executions will be posted either Saturday night or the next day on Sunday.
How long is this going to last?
We’re aiming for 5-7 weeks, including endgame. 1 OOC day = 1 IC day, except for investigations and trials, which are on a 2:1 day scale (meaning: investigations and trials take place on Fridays ICly, but Friday-Saturday OOCly).
How do reserves work?
Reserves will open on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH at 12 pm EST, and close when all 20 slots have been filled. Apps will not be accepted without a reserve. Proxy reserves are allowed, however; the person applying just has to comment to confirm their reserve within 24 hours
Can I change my reserve?
Yep! Just comment on your initial reserve with the new character before you submit an app.
How does apping work?
Apps will open on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5TH at 12 pm EST and close when we’ve reached our 20 character cap. Please post your app with the same journal you used to post or confirm your reserve. Comments on the app post will be screened to protect spoilers.
What are the activity requirements?
Living characters must submit two ten-comment threads with two different characters per week. Dead characters need only comment to check-in as a formality. AC threads may come from the weekly mingle log, the body discovery/investigation log, or any player-posted logs from the check period. Trials are not eligible for the activity check.
Failure to meet AC without informing the mods will result in a strike. Two weeks in a row will result in an automatic death roll. AC will go up on Sunday for the previous Sunday-Friday, and will close at 12:00 pm (EST) on the following Friday.
Is there a character cap?
We’re accepting a limit of 20 characters, with a 2 character cap per canon and 1 character per player.
What characters can I app?
Characters from any musical canon are acceptable! This includes stage musicals, movie musicals, musical episodes of TV series, and rock opera albums. Disney movie musicals are acceptable but will be capped at 2. The same goes for stage adapted musicals of other canons.
All characters must have human-level intelligence and be at least fifteen years of age. Historical figures from musicals are allowed. Any characters with supernatural powers will have them removed.
My character is on the young side. Can I still app them?
That depends. The youngest we're allowing is 15 but we are allowing exceptions if the character in question has, for lack of a better term, seen some shit. For example Oliver Twist would be appable but the children from Fun Home would not. If you're not sure don't be afraid to ask the mods!
But my character is dead in their canon!
Bring them anyway! You can either set their last memory seconds before their death, or have them remember it all and bring them straight into the game anyway.
My character got deathrolled and I don't want to go yet!
And that's perfectly alright! Everyone gets one free opt-out at the start of the game that can be used at any time. Use it wisely. Once that opt-out is used up that's it.
What if my character isn’t human?
Non-human characters will be humanized. They can keep their animal costumes, though, because we all need one of those dudes from Cats walking around.
What about my character’s powers?
Any characters with supernatural powers will have them removed. If they have something else odd going on that might make them difficult to kill, please approach the mods and we’ll try to work something out with you. Our primary goal is that all characters be killable, without the use of magic or other special powers.
A lot of murder games have memory loss aspects. Does this one?
It does! Your character will actually have two canon points, one being where they think they're from and the other being where they're actually from. On each Sunday morning characters will wake up with a new memory of your choosing.
For example, Elphaba comes into the game thinking she's from the beginning of act 1 when she's really from the end of act 2. Two weeks in she regains a memory of the act 1 finale.
So, this is a musical. Will there be singing?
There will absolutely be singing! Characters may burst into song at any time, and it’ll seem as normal as it did back home in their canons. Music can also appear to accompany them, though it won’t seem to have any particular source.
I don’t have to rewrite a song from a musical, do I?
You do not have to produce your own song lyrics, nor are you required to use show tunes. Anything goes - if Lady Gaga expresses your character’s current emotions, then baby, they were born this way! We want to keep the musical mechanic as fun and simple as we can to encourage our players to use it as much as they like.
We’re also including rewards for the use of the song mechanic: if threads submitted for coins to the Merchandise Booth include songs we’ll be granting an extra coin to both parties involved!
IC FAQ
Where am I?
Welcome to the Opera House! You’ve all been cast in a brand-new groundbreaking show, the first of its kind! This will be your home for the duration, but don’t you worry - you’re going to be well taken care of while you’re here.
I don’t remember auditioning for this, and also am not an actor?
That’s because you were fast-tracked past the entire audition process! Our casting director was very impressed with your work. You should be proud!
That sounds more like kidnapping than a stage show.
Now that’s a strong word!
Who’s in charge here?
Don’t you worry, you’ll meet your showrunner soon. He’s responsible for all of you while you’re here, so take any requests or concerns to him.
This is terrible and I want to leave!
That’s just fine! Anyone can end the show at any time - all you have to do is kill one of your castmates and get away with it. If no one pins the crime on you, then they’ll all die, and you can go ahead and take a bow.
What if they DO catch me?
Then you’re going to have to pay for your crimes. If you can’t give us a grand finale, the least you could provide is a good death scene. But don’t worry: your fellow castmates will have to vote you there first.
That’s really risky.
Good art requires taking risks!
Is there anything we can do other than kill each other?
Sure! You could try talking to each other, for one. And there’s plenty of Opera House to explore, so you all shouldn’t get too bored in the meantime!
So it’s just going to be us running wild in here?
Oh no no no! We’re not foolish enough to let you run around like dogs without horses. No, our showrunner will be accessible at all times from the box office except for intermissions.
Who is the showrunner?
Now now, no one likes spoilers!
I keep waking up with new memories! What's happening?!
Oh, that. We just muddled up your memories here and there. It works wonders for creating drama! And don't worry about it too much, they'll all come back eventually.
At least we think so.

MURDER, MURDER, IN THE STREETS
Explain to me how the murders are going to work.
Of course.
Every Tuesday a motive will be presented to the surviving performers by the showrunner. It may be a threat, it may be a pleasant surprise, it may have no impact on you personally whatsoever but for all of you it will be your motive for murder.
In-game the murders will be happening on Fridays; this is purely for OOC convenience and to keep us all on a set schedule throughout the game. Once three people have ICly discovered the body there will be an announcement and a 24-hour period where a mod-led investigation will take performers through relevant areas to find clues to help them piece together the crime.
Trials will take place on Saturdays but ICly take place on Fridays after the investigation concludes. Using the clues found during the investigation the surviving performers will be expected to use them to figure out. At the end of the trial everyone will be asked to vote for the person they believe to be the culprit. If the majority of those present vote for the correct culprit, that person will be executed. Like the investigations, you will have a full 24 hours to figure it out.
But what happens if we vote wrong?
In the event of a majority wrong vote, we do have a back-up plan but it’s a one-time save. If that failsafe gets used, another incorrect majority vote will lead directly into a bad end.
What if the case is unsolvable?
We as mods will always work hard and keep a close eye on the case as it's written and will never intentionally give you an unsolvable case that isn’t endgame-relevant. We also ask that our players put forth an effort to play fair as well- after all, we're all here to make our characters suffer and write murder mysteries for each other, so let's keep things fair and fun for everyone.
When will I know if I’m involved in a murder?
Death rolls will happen the Sunday before the investigation; should you want to volunteer to be killed off, you're more than welcome to get in contact with us or indicate that on your app and we'll try to schedule you in! We mods will work closely with our culprit and victim to plan out a fun and creative case through the week.
What happens to the characters when they die? Do I still get to play in the game?
There's only one way to find out, now isn't there? But don't be afraid of dying, because there will still be things for your character to do!
...actually, a lot of things for your character to do. You might think you can sleep when you're dead, but you'd be wrong! There's a few special things waiting for you in the afterlife that might help you and your living friends get a better ending!
Is there any way we can get things from home?
That’s what the Merchandise Booth is for!

So unfortunately Tara wouldn't be appable to this particular round but we do encourage you to bring someone else if you'd like.

To return to your original question, though, we would like both her perceived and actual canonpoints to be part of the musical episode, so that she can regain musical memories along with everyone else.
